5.3 Definition of the Sales/Usage Report structure where release data is available

When data is being reported using the MRBV of the Masterlist Profile of the DSR standards and data about the release in which the resources are contained is available to the licensee, the following Records shall be communicated for each Block in this order

  1. One HEAD Record.

  2. One or more summary Records of type SY11.01

This summary Record provides data describing the commercial model the licensee expects to use to distribute the releases and resources on its service and which type of use and the territory in which the licensee traded.

  1. One or more Blocks that contain the following Records:

(a) Exactly one Record of type RE01.03:

This Record provides data describing a Head Release. If the licensee has received a NewReleaseMessage defined in DDEX’s Electronic Release Notification Message Suite, the Head Release for the purposes of a Sales/Usage Report created in accordance with this profile is the Album Release as defined in the NewReleaseMessage.

(b) For each RE01.03 one resource Record of type AS02.04:

Each of these Records provide data describing each sound recording, music video and other resource that is contained in the Head Release and basic details of the musical work(s) that are embodied in each such sound recording, music video or other resource.

Only a resource (that is sound recording, music video or other resource) that is to be sold or used shall be included in the AS02.04 Record in this section of the Block. For the avoidance of doubt, if the Block is describing a Head Release that has been sold or used, which contains multiple resources, all the resources that embody musical work(s) that are contained in that Head Release need to be included in multiple AS02.04 Records in the Block.

Any musical work(s) data provided in the AS02.04 Record shall be data received by the licensee from the record company or distributor that authorised the use of the resource in the territory which is the subject of the Sales/Usage Report and that supplied the data about the resource that embodies the musical work(s);

(c) Instead of using an AS02.04 Record the licensee may wish to present the data in two Records. This is achieved as follows:

(i) One or more Record of type AS01.03.

Each of these Records provides data describing each sound recording, music video and other resource that is contained in the Head Release but without any details about the musical work(s) embodied in that sound recording, music video or other resource.

Only a resource (that is sound recording, music video or other resource) that is to be sold or used shall be included in the AS01.03 Record in this section of the Block. and

(ii) None, one or more Records of type MW01.03

Each of these Records provide data describing the musical work(s) embodied in the sound recording, music video or other resource (as described in the the AS01.03 Record).

The musical work data shall be included in the form that the licensee uses for its processes which shall be an amalgamation of all such data received about the same musical work(s) by the licensee from one or more record company(ies) or distributor(s).

If the Block containing an AS01.03 Record followed by MW01.03 Record(s) is describing a Head Release that has been sold or used, which contains multiple resources, all the resources that embody musical work(s) that are contained in that Head Release need to be included in the Block. This is achieved by stringing together multiple AS01.03+MW01.03 pairs of Records.

This is shown in Figure 2, where the musical work Records (MW01.03) are interspersed with the resource Records (AS01.03). The MW01.03 Record immediately following an AS01.03 Record describes the musical work(s) embodied in that resource.

MW01.03 Records may not be used in combination with AS02.04 Records.

AS01.03 + MW01.03 and AS02.04 Records may be used together within a single Block. One example would be where the licensee communicates the writers of ten tracks to the licensor but where the eleventh track is a medley created by the licensee comprising multiple musical works.

(d) None, one or more Record of type LC01.01:

Each of these Records provide data describing the sound recording, music video or other resource and basic data about the musical work(s) that are embodied in each such sound recording, music video or other resource as are described in the above AS Record. However, each LC01.01 Record provides any additional data about those resources and musical works as received by the licensee from a record company or distributor other than the record company or distributor that provided the licensee with the data contained in the AS02.04 Record. The identity of each such data source shall be listed in the MusicalWorkDataProvider Cell. The LC01.01 Records are specified as optional in this profile but this may be varied in accordance with the bilateral agreement between the licensee and the licensor.

(e) Exactly one master list Record of type ML01.01.

This Record provides data describing the number of sales and/or usages the licensee expects for the relevant releases or resoures. This data is intended to enable the licensor to prioritise which data describing releases or resources it ingests for processing in its systems.

(f) None, one or more musical work Record of type MW01.03:

Each of these Records provide data previously provided by the licensor to the licensee about the musical work(s) that are embodied in the resources reported in the AS02.04 Record.

  1. One FOOT Record.

The data contained in all the Records shall be in the form it is used by the licensee for its own processes, unless indicated otherwise, for example, in the LC01.01 Record.

The diagram below provides an overview of the order the Records described above appear in a Sales/Usage Report created in accordance with this profile of the DSR standard. The Blocks shall be preceded by one or more Summary Records SY11.01.
